The new measures approved by the Valencian government to slow the spread of coronavirus They will come into force on Thursday, December 10, after the approval of two decrees -one from the Presidency and another from the Ministry of Health-, which were published in the Official Gazette of the Generalitat Valenciana (DOGV) on December 5.

The Valencian Community is at a high risk level due to Covid-19, which has caused the Valencian Government to tighten some of the restrictions, as it is not managing to lower the curve as fast as other autonomous communities.

In addition, Valencia is the Spanish autonomy with a higher coronavirus positivity rate, almost doubling the Spanish average. Specifically, according to the latest update dated December 7, the Valencian Community has a positive percentage of coronavirus obtained by each PCR test of 13.62 percent, by 7.69 percent of the national average.

Mainly, the restrictions focus on limiting mobility between territories and at certain times of the day, as well as social encounters, since most outbreaks of Covid-19 that are detected in the Valencian Community has a social origin. In addition, it is also intended to avoid crowds.

However, during Christmas holidays, the Generalitat has validated some exceptions to the limitations, to allow family gatherings.

Social gatherings

Meetings with family and friends are limited to a maximum of six people until January 15, although there will be exceptions at Christmas. During December 24, 25, 26 and 31 and January 1, a maximum of ten family members or close people may meet; while meetings with friends will keep their limit at six people.

Despite this exception on Christmas dates, the Generalitat has advised holding these meetings within the same group of coexistence. In addition, he has also recommended not to exceed the two groups of coexistence in the meetings.

Bars and restaurants

The hotel and restaurant establishments must maintain the capacity of fifty percent on the terraces and thirty percent inside the premises. As for the hours, they must close at midnight and will not be allowed to receive orders after eleven o’clock.

At Christmas, on December 24, 25, 26 and 31 and on January 1, the closing of bars and restaurants will be delayed at one in the morning, although they will not be able to accept orders after twelve thirty night. In addition, during these dates, the tables of relatives and friends may be of a maximum of ten people; not so those of friends.

Perimeter confinement

The closure of the Valencian Community will continue in force until January 15, so it will not be possible to enter or leave the region except for just cause.

However, on December 23, 24, 25 and 31 and on January 1, the perimeter closure will be lifted to allow citizens to move to other territories that are the place of habitual residence of relatives or close friends.


Night mobility is still prohibited, except for just cause, between midnight and six in the morning. On the other hand, on December 24, 25 and 31 and January 1, the curfew will be valid from one thirty in the morning until six in the morning, to allow citizens to return to their homes.

Horseback riding

The public will be able to see the Three Kings in static parades, spaces where there are monuments exposed, with an established route and where all the security measures against the coronavirus are met.

The Generalitat pointed out that parades could also be authorized in which the Kings were in a motorized vehicle, without stopping and without throwing gifts on the public highway, to avoid crowds. In this case, citizens must observe the parade from their balconies.

Popular races, such as the traditional San Silvestre at the end of the year, are not allowed.

Christmas markets and amusement parks

In the markets, the capacity of fifty percent of stalls will be maintained or the merchants may increase the space equivalent to this. As a novelty, in case the space cannot be expanded, the capacity of visitors can be regulated and reduced to fifty percent so as not to eliminate positions.

These same capacity limitations will apply to fair activities and amusement parks.


Activities with a large concentration of people will be prohibited from exceeding 150 participants, which will include the event organizers, nor may they exceed the capacity of fifty percent of the venue, whether outdoors or indoors.

Cultural events that are in the ordinary program, as in the case of movie theaters, concerts or exhibitions, are not part of these events.

Non-professional sport

Non-professional sports training or competitions held in sports facilities may have a maximum public capacity of thirty percent and with a limit of 150 people attending.

The presence of the public in sporting events held within the framework of international professional competitions will not be allowed. Regarding professional competitions at the national level, the prevention measures adopted by the Government of Spain will apply.
