One of the state chiefs is now warning of another lockdown: Michael Kretschmer, Prime Minister of Saxony, emphasized in an interview with Deutschlandfunk that one now has to react to the increasing numbers. “We have to protect this country from a lockdown,” said Kretschmer. As a concrete measure, the Saxon Prime Minister mentioned a modification of the Infection Protection Act. He also advocated consistent implementation of the 2G regulation in many areas of society.

+++ 11.20 a.m .: Karl Lauterbach warns of this the currently sharply increasing number of corona cases* before new restrictions on Christmas. “Only the age distribution prevents the catastrophe,” wrote the SPD politician on Twitter.

“This is how we endanger Christmas.”

The “main problem” is currently that a consistent review of the 2G and 3G rules is no longer taking place sufficiently. Lauterbach had already denounced “ridiculous” controls in the catering trade (see update from 8.30 a.m.).

The federal and state health ministers will discuss Germany’s further pandemic strategy on Thursday and Friday.

Update from Thursday, November 4th, 2021, 8.30 a.m .: The SPD health expert Karl Lauterbach considers the corona controls of many restaurateurs and organizers in Germany to be too “ridiculous”. In many restaurants in Germany, checks are inadequate to determine whether guests have been vaccinated or have a current rapid test, Lauterbach said on Wednesday in the Spiegel top talk. In order to counter the fourth wave, he will soon consider further restrictions to be indispensable. Of the SPD-Politicians * demanded clear regulations from the federal states: “2G brings the most, that is the silver bullet”. He recommended that restaurants, clubs and other venues should only be opened to the vaccinated or convalescent.

The health expert accused the politicians of having given sufficient information about the need for booster vaccinations too late. “The entire adult population will need another booster vaccination,” he said. It was a mistake to wind up the vaccination centers too quickly.

On Thursday and Friday, Federal Health Minister Jens Spahn (CDU) and the health ministers of the federal states want to discuss how to proceed. Spahn mentioned three points on Wednesday: The number of booster vaccinations had to be increased, and everyone, regardless of age, could take advantage of such a vaccination. He called for mandatory tests for employees and visitors to care facilities. He also called for stricter controls to ensure compliance with the 2G or 3G rules.

Update from Wednesday, November 3rd, 2021, 2 p.m .: There is currently disagreement among the federal states as to whether there should be a new Corona summit in Germany. Federal Minister of Health Jens Spahn* said in the morning at a press conference in Berlin that there should be new deliberations.

One of the driving forces of a new Corona summit is Markus Söder, Prime Minister of Bavaria (see first report). Söder had already announced that the Free State would probably tighten the measures in response to the increasing number of cases. That took place at noon. Söder emphasized at a press conference that the state is re-sharpening its hospital traffic lights. The central criterion for this is and will remain the occupancy of the intensive care beds. As soon as 450 beds across Bavaria are occupied, the traffic light will turn yellow, which means additional corona measures: 3G becomes 3G-Plus (PCR instead of quick test), 3G-Plus becomes 2G. In such a case, this primarily affects the catering and events sector. Retail and public transport would not be affected.

Corona in Bavaria: Söder tightened measures

If the traffic light turns red – the condition for this is 600 occupied intensive care beds in Bavaria – on the other hand, 3G applies at the workplace and 2G is expanded. Gastronomy standard would be 3G plus.

The Bavarian hospital traffic light can be applied to the entire state, but it also applies to hotspots. In other words: If the intensive care bed utilization is extremely high in a district, the measures there must be tightened according to the traffic light color.

In his statement, Söder emphasized that Germany was facing a “hard winter”. The key in the corona crisis are vaccinations. Unless the vaccination rate improves, the situation will remain tense. The Bavarian Prime Minister also spoke out, similar to Spahn in the morning, in favor of general booster vaccination offers for everyone.

First report from Wednesday, November 3rd, 2021, 9.45 a.m .: Berlin – Currently there are again calls for another corona summit. The background to this is the increasing number of infections in Germany.* North Rhine-Westphalia’s new head of government Hendrik Wüst (CDU*) had made the request first. Last week he emphasized that the current increase in corona infections required “vigilance and decisive action by everyone in the vaccination strategy”.

Besides Wüst also demanded Markus Söder* Another Corona summit: “I think a prime ministerial conference would be a good thing,” said Bavaria’s prime minister after one CSUSession * – and proposed tougher pandemic measures. Tobias Hans, Prime Minister of Saarland, also spoke out in favor of rapid consultations between the federal government and the federal states.

Corona summit: Markus Söder calls for tougher measures against the increase in infections

However, not all federal states support Wüst and Söder’s proposal. Daniel Günther, Prime Minister of Schleswig-Holstein, told the editorial network Germany: “From a Schleswig-Holstein perspective, I see no need for a federal-state meeting.” Bodo Ramelow, Prime Minister of Thuringia, also emphasized to the RND: “I don’t need any Prime Minister’s Conference, because the last one in Bonn took a clear decision. ”Michael Müller, Governing Mayor of Berlin, was also surprised at the new summit demand:“ About the booster vaccinations? Any country can organize that, in Berlin we are already well on the way here. “

The central topic of possible consultations would probably be the situation of numerous people in Germany who are not vaccinated against the corona virus. The outgoing Chancellor Angela Merkel* According to consistent media reports, it was recently very concerned about the increasing number of cases – and apparently demanded in a meeting that there should be severe restrictions for corona-unvaccinated people. On the sidelines of the G20 summit in Rome, Merkel also said: “You have to speak to the federal states again.” The increase in the number of cases is “very worrying”.

Saxony is taking the lead on this issue, for example: The state government there is tightening the corona rules for unvaccinated people from Monday (November 8th, 2021). As it was said in a press conference on Tuesday (November 2nd, 2021), the new protection ordinance provides that the 2G rule in particular should apply in numerous areas. So far, for example, restaurateurs have been able to decide for themselves whether they want 2G or 3G. In addition to gastronomy and cultural events, Christmas markets could also be affected. Other federal states have already announced that they want to announce new measures: For example, the Corona cabinet met on Tuesday in Hesse. Baden-Württemberg has already tightened the rules. Stricter rules have also been announced in Bavaria. (do with AFP / dpa) * fr.de is an offer from IPPEN.MEDIA.
