Calatayud becomes the worst focus of Covid in Aragon after the escalation worsens in the last week

Calatayud has become the worst urban focus in Covid of Aragon in these first days of November. It had been registering high levels of coronavirus for some time, and in the last week it has aggravated the escalation. Currently, in the equator of autumn, it is the Aragonese city with the highest rate of infections.

The table of Health risk levels is divided into minimum, low, medium, high and very high.
Aragon is currently at the medium level, but the cities of Calatayud and Fraga are at the very high level.
Until a week ago the worst focus was Fraga, but this city from Huesca has improved in the last seven days, while in Calatayud the spread of Covid has worsened.

According to the latest official data notified by the health authorities, the contagion rate in Calatayud already reaches 169.2 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in the accumulated of seven days, and exceeds 300 cases per 100,000 in fourteen days. In Fraga, the latest weekly data places its contagion rate at 130.3 per 100,000.

Of the Aragonese municipalities with more than 10,000 inhabitants, Calatayud and Fraga are the only ones with a very high risk level from Covid. They are followed, at a high level, by the Zaragoza towns of Ejea de los Caballeros and Cuarte de Huerva. At the opposite extreme, the Aragonese cities with the lowest rates of contagion at the moment are Monzón, Barbastro and Jaca from Huesca.

Provincial capitals

For their part, the three Aragonese provincial capitals register moderate rates of contagion. On Teruel it amounts to 77.3 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in the accumulated of the last seven days, from Monday 1 to Sunday 7 November. On Zaragoza is 50.7 per 100,000, and in the Huesca capital it stands at 31.5 infections per 100,000 inhabitants in a week. The capitals of Zaragoza and Huesca are among the Aragonese cities with the lowest incidence of Covid at the moment.

By basic health zones, in absolute figures, the one that has reported the most infections during this last week has been that of Urban Calatayud, with a total of 31 confirmed cases. Behind her, two basic health areas in Zaragoza capital, those of a university and San José Sur, which have confirmed in these last seven days 22 and 21 Covid infections, respectively. And, behind them, the health area of Ejea de los Caballeros, which in the last week has reported 20 cases of coronavirus.

The escalation of infections has also been reflected in hospitalizations for Covid. This weekend, 4 coronavirus patients had been admitted to the Calatayud hospital, three more than a week ago. This hospital covers the regions of Calatayud, Aranda, Daroca and a small portion of Valdejalón.

In the whole of Aragon, this weekend a total of 64 Covid patients had been hospitalized, 14 of them in intensive care units (ICU).
