Within the framework of the Mediterránia Gastrònoma room, the leading gastronomic fair of the Mediterranean region, which takes place until tomorrow at the Feria Valencia facilities, the selection of chefs who will cook for the guests at the Gala of the Michelin Guide Spain & Portugal 2022.
The great festival of the gastronomy of Spain and Portugal, which will take place on December 14 in the auditorium of the Palau de Les Arts, thus recovers the face-to-face format, with all measures to guarantee the safety of the guests who will attend the event and , for the first time in its history, the carbon footprint it generates will be estimated.
The Councilor for Tourism, Emiliano García, highlighted the international repercussion of the gala and explained that “there is no better occasion than this to showcase the talent of our chefs, the perfect ambassadors of our gastronomy, of their professionalism, creativity and respect for the proximity product. A product that comes directly from one of our most important assets, our natural pantry: the sea and our garden ”.
García has highlighted the collaborative work of the three public administrations together with the private sector, «a collaboration thanks to which we are demonstrating, day by day, why Valencia is the great gastronomic capital which is, “he concluded.
The regional secretary of Tourism, Francesc Colomer, has indicated that the choice of the city of València for the celebration of the Michelin Gala «in a space as emblematic as the Palau de Les Arts Reina Sofía is an opportunity to show the quality of gastronomy Valencian to the world ». In addition, he stressed that this event «supposes an opportunity for the entire hospitality sector, which has been a very complicated year and a half due to the pandemic, and in the celebration of this Gala the work, effort, talent, creativity and values of the gastronomic proposals are recognized.
For his part, the person in charge of Turisme València of the Valencia Provincial Council, Jordi Mayor, stressed that “the event will be an exceptional and unique moment for the projection of the capacity, variety, professionalism and quality of the Valencian destination gastronomy product, through the good work of the participating Valencian chefs and their different preparations ».
For the Gala dinner, which will take place at the Museu de les Ciències, it has been selected a cast of chefs from Michelin-starred restaurants, which represent and highlight the richness, quality and diversity of the gastronomy of the establishments of the Valencian Community referenced in the 2021 edition of the Michelin Guide Spain & Portugal.
This first class gastronomic team, coordinated by Quique Dacosta, from the homonymous restaurant in Dénia (three Michelin Stars), Alicante, will be made up of the following chefs: Ricard Camarena, Ricard Camarena Restaurant (two Michelin Stars and Green Star), Valencia; Luis Valls, El Poblet (two Michelin Stars), Valencia; Alberto Ferruz, BonAmb (two Michelin Stars), Jávea-Alicante; Kiko Moya, L’Escaleta (two Michelin Stars), Cocentaina-Alicante; Begoña Rodrigo, La Salita (one Michelin Star), Valencia; Susi Díaz, La Finca (one Michelin Star), Elche-Alicante; Raúl Resino, Restaurant Raúl Resino (one Michelin Star), Benicarló-Castellón; and Miguel Barrera, Cal Paradis (one Michelin Star), Vall D’Alba-Castellón.
The presenter of the Gala of the Michelin Guide Spain & Portugal 2022 will be Ana Milan which will also star in the series “Mediterráneo, Tierra de Estrellas”, in which the Alicante actress will show her land on a tour of the Valencian Community, highlighting its products, its producers and its restaurants.
In addition to the series, as part of the pre-Gala program there will also be a new edition of the Gala Debate, premiered last year, which on this occasion will take place on November 29 at the Valencia Conference Center, under the slogan “Gastronomy and Sustainability”. Moderated by journalist Jesús Trelis, the debate will feature exceptional guests. Among them, 4 chefs with Green Star in recognition of their commitment in favor of sustainable gastronomy: Ricard Camarena (Ricard Camarena Restaurant), Ángel León (Aponiente Restaurant), Rodrigo de la Calle (El Invernadero Restaurant) and Elvira Fernández (El Llar de Viri). They will be accompanied by Toni Misiano and Rafael Monge, two producers with ecological projects; Vinyet Capdet, from the CETT in Barcelona, the only hotel and restaurant school with a Master in Sustainable Gastronomy; and the councilor Emiliano García will act as host.
From Michelin it has been stated that «this will be the reunion gala. We are working on it with great enthusiasm to recover the face-to-face format and enjoy a unique event, with all the security measures. And one of the most difficult things for us has been selecting the chefs who will participate in the showcooking of the gala dinner. For this we have based on their level and gastronomic potential when developing this task, ensuring that there is a representation of all the provinces of the community and the diversity of their gastronomic offer ”.
“Last year’s digital gala not only taught us to adapt to an unprecedented situation, but also that, thanks to digital media and social networks, we could open this great gastronomy festival to many more people. For this reason, this year we will continue to expand the content of the gala with previous activations that will include very enriching audiovisual content ”, they pointed out.
Finally, chef Quique Dacosta, gastronomic coordinator of the gala, has shown his gratitude to Michelin “for having trusted Valencia and the chefs who represent the gastronomy of this Community.
