Traffic obstructions on the Polish-Belarusian border | politics

The tense situation on the Polish-Belarusian border has led to considerable traffic obstructions.

Warsaw – Truck drivers had to wait around 21 hours for clearance at the Bobrowniki border crossing, as the Polish border guards announced on Tuesday.

The background to this is the closure of the Kuznica border crossing in the Podlachian Woidowschaft. According to the Polish authorities, large groups of migrants had tried in vain to break through the fence from the Belarusian side.

The government in Warsaw and the EU are accusing the authoritarian Belarusian ruler Alexander Lukashenko of targeting people from crisis regions such as Afghanistan and Iraq in order to smuggle them into the EU. Refugee organizations such as the UNHCR warned of further deaths among migrants at the border in view of the upcoming winter and demanded compliance with fundamental human rights. (dpa)
