Germany: Majority of the population is in favor of a general vaccination requirement

In the fight against Corona, a slim majority of Germans are in favor of compulsory vaccination.

Berlin / Cologne – In the fight against Corona, a slim majority of Germans are in favor of compulsory vaccination. That comes from the “Trendbarometer” published on Tuesday by RTL and ntv, for which the opinion research institute Forsa asked around 1000 people. 53 percent were in favor of a general compulsory vaccination; 45 percent were of the opinion that vaccination should continue to be voluntary. In East Germany, however, the majority of people reject an obligation to vaccinate.

The plan of the traffic light parties to let the “epidemic situation” come to an end has also met with great skepticism. 60 percent of those surveyed think that’s wrong – that’s another four percentage points more than two weeks ago. Only one in three thinks this decision is the right one. The establishment of an “epidemic situation” gives the federal government extensive competencies in combating pandemics. However, the SPD, Greens and FDP do not want to extend this regulation, which will expire in a few days. (dpa)
