Berlin – Several MPs from the FDP and Greens propose compulsory vaccination against Corona for over-50s. “We would like to promote the middle course in the mandatory vaccination debate and make it capable of winning a majority,” they said together on Tuesday. Her proposal includes two measures: a mandatory, professional and personal consultation for all adult unvaccinated people and an obligation to provide proof of vaccination from the age of 50. In this way, “a maximum effect should be achieved with a milder state intervention”.

The Bundestag meets on Wednesday for a first debate on compulsory vaccination. So far there have essentially been three approaches: Parliamentarians from all three traffic light groups are preparing a draft for compulsory vaccination from the age of 18, which Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) has also spoken out in favor of. And a group around FDP Vice Wolfgang Kubicki wants to prevent compulsory vaccination in general. What is new is the push by several politicians led by FDP MP Andrew Ullmann for compulsory vaccination from the age of 50.

The health system must be protected from overload, the group argues. Age is an easily measured risk factor for a severe course of the disease. Therefore, compulsory vaccination for everyone over the age of 50 is easier to justify under constitutional law. According to the announcement, the proposal is supported by the FDP MPs Gyde Jensen and Konstantin Kuhle and the Green MPs Dieter Janecek, Paula Piechotta and Kordula Schulz-Asche. (dpa)
