Toledo will recover this year the festival of Carnival on your usual date. This has been advanced this Tuesday by the Councilor for Celebrations, María Teresa Puig, who has presented the bases of the parade that will be held on Saturday, February 26. A day later, on February 27, the wake will be held and Burial of the Sardine which will culminate with fireworks on the banks of the river.

The opening of the registration period to participate in the Toledo Carnival parade will open on January 26 and will close on February 9. “The only condition to sign up is that the comparsas are made up of a minimum of 15 people,” said María Teresa Puig, who stressed that those interested can download the application in the Celebrations section of the City Council website and complete it through of the electronic office.

“As always, registration is free and determines the order in the parade and travel aid and production costs are maintained,” said the mayor of Celebrations. The prizes for the best comparsas and the special mentions will distribute a total of 30,000 euros and there will be a special mention, of 500 euros, for the comparsa that stands out for presenting a theme related to the VIII Centenary of Alfonso X El Sabio.

The parade will start at 5:00 p.m. and will follow the same route as in the last edition, that of the year 2020: Barber Avenue, Reconquista Avenue, Carlos III Avenue, Nicaragua Street to end on America Avenue, where the arrival will be set with music and “a show by some of the best chirigotas in Cádiz”, while the jury deliberates the list of winning troupes and the parade’s special mentions.

Among the requirements that will be valued, the originality and creativity of the costumes; the color and richness of some details and the work required in the preparation of the costumes and the troupe, in general. The Kekumba batucada will open the parade «“animating the day».

The jury will be made up of a councilor from each of the political groups, a fashion designer, a representative of the Federation of Neighborhood Associations, the coordinator of the VIII Centenary of the birth of Alfonso X, a representative of the media and will be chaired by the Councilor for Celebrations who, as indicated, will not occupy a fixed or prominent position in the parade to avoid imbalances in its development.

On the other hand, on Sunday, February 27, the wake and burial of the Sardine will continue, as well as the fireworks on the pier of the Barco de Pasaje, with the animation of the batucada and the charanga ‘Asamblea de majaras’. The departure time will be at 6:30 p.m. with the traditional route. “«What will not take place is the distribution of pasta during the wake or sardines on the pier» just as the verbena has not been scheduled. What does remain are the fireworks.

As María Teresa Puig has explained, the epidemiological data will mark the development of the rest of the events that, today, will not be carried out like the traditional festivals. The councilor of the area has stressed that “everything can change” since there is still a month left for the development of the party.
