Excellent rate of entries in the Calella de Palafrugell Master regatta

Just a week ago the registrations for the EurILCA Master 2022 regatta -XIV Calella de Palafrugell Trophy- Pitus Jiménez Memorial- opened, and more than 20 sailors have already pre-registered.

After two years of suspension of the race, forced by the COVID-19 pandemic, the desire to be able to sail in the privileged waters of Calella de Palafrugell, by master sailors from all over Europe, is palpable.

The same day that registrations were activated, on January 19, the Organizing Committee began receiving applications from sailors from all over Europe. “It seems that they want to meet again” -They have reported from sources of the Organizing Committee. “The Masters sailors are looking forward to sailing together again and we are seeing it with the continuous calls and pre-registrations received.

The rhythm is very good, there are more than 20 registered”. The first to register, on the same day that the online form was opened, was Frenchman Jean-Pierre Vogtensperger, from the SN Narbonne club, in the ILCA7 Grand Master category. Then the rhythm hasn’t stopped. So far sailors from 9 countries have registered: France, Spain, Holland, Belgium, Germany, Great Britain, Switzerland, Ireland and Mexico.

Among the first Spanish entrants are Master Carlos Echavarri, from RCM Santander, Legend Miquel Álvarez from CV Calella, as well as other teammates from his club, in the Grand Master category Antoni Roig and Pep Campi.

Highlight the Spanish Olympians, who have also registered, such as José María Van der Ploeg from CN ​​el Balís, and José Luis Doreste from CN ​​Puerto de Aro, both in ILCA7 Grand Master.

Other Spanish sailors registered are Michel Majon, CN Altea, in ILCA7 Grand Master, Oriol Martí, CN Vilassar de Mar, in ILCA6 Master, Didier Goron, RCN Barcelona, ​​​​in ILCA6 Grand Master.

Among the foreigners, there are sailors who are regulars at the race, such as the Dutchman Jaap Mazereeuw, the British Max Hunt, the Belgian Michel Majon, the Swiss Markus Ochs and the German Alexandra Behrens.

The EurILCA Master 2022, XIV Calella de Palafrugell Trophy, is the great spring event for European master sailors who take the opportunity to meet again and share these days of competition. Everything seems to indicate that after overcoming these two years of health crisis, this year is presented with great enthusiasm.
