Up for auction one of the latest sneakers designed by Virgil Abloh

It was last June when Virgil Abloh showed at the spring/summer 2022 show the Louis Vuitton collaboration with Nike, some exquisite shoes that immediately conquered lovers of fashion and sports shoes. This was the designer’s last major project before he passed away in November, adding to its value, both sentimental and financial. Despite the fact that they were shown to the general public a few months ago, it has not been until now that the French fashion house has revealed more details about this exclusive model and its sale.

Thus, Louis Vuitton has organized, together with the company Sotheby’s, a charity auction of 200 limited edition pairs of the Air model

Force 1 x Virgil Abloh with a starting price of 2000 dollars, about 1,765 euros to change, an initiative that has the support of the designer’s family. This very special bid coincides with the 40th anniversary of this Nike model, one of the most successful in its history.

Available in sizes 35-47, this design is crafted in leather and embellished with Louis Vuitton’s iconic Damier prints with natural cowhide trims and sporty monogram printed quote marks of Abloh. What’s more, each pair is accompanied by a Pilot Case travel bag –which also belongs to the aforementioned collection–, a model in taurillon leather in orange tones with the Monogram print, the firm’s classic S closure in white and a luggage tag in the shape of the Nike Swoosh. This bag adapts to any type of shoe and size thanks to an internal padding system.

The sale, which will take place online, will be open from January 26 to February 8 and the benefits of the sales will be destined in its entirety to the scholarship fund Virgil Abloh Post-Modern Scholarship Fund, an organization that, in collaboration with Fashion Scholarship Fund, helps educate students of black, African-American or African descent in the US.

A very living legacy

Virgil Abloh’s essence and love for fashion are still latent after his sudden death. In fact, in recent days it has been possible to see in Paris Men’s Fashion Week Louis Vuitton’s latest collection, baptized as Louis Dreamhouse, which Abloh oversaw as creative director of the firm. In addition, it was common for the designer to participate in projects in other areas, such as production. Also, the Sundance Film Festival, which started on January 20, premiered ‘Sub Eleven Seconds’, a short 24-minute documentary that he executive produced and that focuses on the figure of the athletics star Sha’Carri Richardson who broke the record in the 100 meters.
