The national deputies of the Popular Party for Toledo, Vicente Tirado and Carmen Riolobos, have asked this Thursday for solutions before “the unsustainable situation that supports the dairy sector, since at this time the production of milk is more expensive than the price at which the owners of the farms are selling it, an unacceptable situation, because these self-employed cannot work to lose money ».

This has been stated after the meeting held in the Congress of Deputies with the president of the
Frisian Association of Castilla-La Mancha
(Africama), José María Miguel, and the members of the association’s board of directors, Diego Jerónimo and Javier Rosado. A meeting that was also attended by the Vice President of Congress and Deputy Secretary General of Social Action of the PP, Ana Pastor, and the spokesperson for Agriculture of the Popular Parliamentary Group, Milagros Marcos.

Tirado has remarked that “it cannot be that a liter of water costs more than a liter of milk, farmers are going bankrupt and what the Spanish Government has to do is help them with a reduction in taxes, so that their farms can be profitable, with fair prices and not below production costs.

For his part, Riolobos stressed that the situation especially affects the ranchers of Africama, located in
Talavera of the Queen
, and has advanced that after the meeting «we have committed to propose a battery of initiatives in Congress to defend their just demands and to support a strategic sector for Talavera, which cannot continue working to sell below the cost of production ».

In this sense, the national deputy has assured that the Law of the Food Chain must be applied, which has recently been approved in Congress and that “prohibits precisely these practices”, to which must be added another series of measures to reduce production costs, for which he has raised, for example, the need to “lower the price of electricity, lowering VAT”, as the PP has already proposed in Congress.

The popular deputies have highlighted the commitment of the national president of the PP, Pablo Casado, and the regional president, Paco Núñez, in the defense of the livestock sector of Castilla-La Mancha, which is essential for the economy of many municipalities of Castilla-La Mancha . “A commitment to the primary sector that we will continue to defend also from the Congress of Deputies,” they have assured.
