Rumors of an impending Austria-wide lockdown were denied by the Chancellery on Tuesday. Previously, it was spread via Whatsapp – without naming sources – that a lockdown with closed bars and nightly exit restrictions would apply from November 17, 2021. The Chancellery emphasized that these claims “are false and have no basis”.

Federal Chancellor Alexander Schallenberg (ÖVP) had declared last Friday that they did not want a lockdown for “protected” people, i.e. those vaccinated against Corona. The government’s step-by-step plan provides for exit restrictions for unvaccinated people with an intensive care bed occupancy of 600 or more.

On Monday, 403 people were cared for in intensive care units because of Covid-19. The government hopes that the 2G rule that is now in force will allow more people to be vaccinated than before in many areas.
