The company Hispanic-American Skydweller has presented in Valdepeñas (Ciudad Real) its project to build electric drones, capable of flying for an unlimited time thanks to its power supply through solar energy, and of great resistance, which will be used to start commercial and government applications.
The project has been presented by those responsible for the company in an event that was attended by the President of Castilla-La Mancha, Emiliano García-Page, the Minister of Economy, Business and Employment, Patricia Franco, and the Mayor of Valdepeñas , Jesús Martín.
Skydweller’s unmanned aircraft will open up multiple possibilities for providing services ranging from land and maritime surveillance to the possibility of monitoring the environment and infrastructure, as well as industrial geoinformation, telecommunications and precision navigation services.
Also, those responsible for the company have explained during their presentation, these drones may be used in emergency situations before disasters.
The company, which has bases in the United States and Spain and has partners in France, Germany and Italy, has decided to bet on Valdepeñas as the place to install a plant dedicated to the construction of these aircraft.
It is estimated that in 2021 the flight of the first aircraft manufactured at the Valdepeñeras facilities will take place, where the company is also working on the adaptation of the take-off and landing runway.
The president of Castilla-La Mancha, Emiliano García-Page, has assured during the presentation of this project that these aircraft, without replacing the work carried out by satellites, bring these advantages closer to the ground, expanding the range of options offered by these communications.
Page has thanked Skydweller for always betting on Ciudad Real to locate its facilities and has valued that this has been possible thanks to the fact that in Castilla-La Mancha they have found «an environment and a favorable climate, in economic terms, administrative and bureaucratic ».
The head of the regional executive has also referred to the fact that the installation of this company in Valdepeñas will mean the creation of 250 jobs initially, which, he has commented, will surely be more, since this type of project becomes in poles of attraction of new ones.
For her part, the Minister of Economy, Business and Employment has indicated that the Skydweller project fits perfectly into the philosophy of European funds and also into the growth and development strategy of the region, which has already established the digital transformation and sustainable growth, together with industrialization, in the activation levers of the Plan Adelante.
In addition, he highlighted the support and commitment of the regional government with the Skydweller project and the implementation of new tools such as the priority projects law or business support units that guarantee that closeness and trust as a brand of the regional government.
The future aircraft will be manufactured in a 4,500 square meter hangar, which will be located on land next to the local “Manuel Sánchez” aerodrome, where the company is already working on adapting the runway for its opening next year.
