This is what the young Canarian guitarist will offer this Thursday Luis Alejandro García Pérez, Awarded with the 2019 El Primer Palau award. The reason is that with this evening they wanted to remember the eightieth anniversary of the premiere of the Concert of Aranjuez, by Joaquín Rodrigo, in this same room. The Barcelona concert hall will offer this tribute for free, in which the Vallès Symphony Orchestra Directed by Xavier Puig. The program also includes the suite for solo guitar «Platero y yo», by Eduardo Sainz de la Maza. It was precisely the brother of the composer and music critic of this newspaper, Regino Sainz de la Maza, who premiered the Concert in Barcelona in 1940. “Platero y yo” is a collection of short pieces based on different passages from the homonymous text by Juan Ramón Jimenez.

The premiere of the Aranjuez Concert took place in Barcelona, ​​according to the deputy artistic director of the Palau, Mercedes Conde, because “Joaquín Rodrigo was linked to the Orfeó and this room.” The Sáinz de la Maza brothers also had close ties with Catalonia. Eduardo, the composer, wrote various versions of Catalan songs for guitar, such as the Christmas “El noi de la mare” or “La cançó del lladre”.
