Seven Aragonese cities continue to register very high rates of Covid contagion, above the alarm level, which is set by the health authorities in 125 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in a week. In the last seven days, the spread of Covid has rebounded significantly in six of the 14 largest municipalities in Aragon: Caspe, Fraga, Utebo, Alcañiz, Calatayud and Ejea de los Caballeros. To these foci are added those that were already active and that, despite having moderated, continue to register high rates of contagion.
In total, the alarm threshold for Covid infections is currently exceeded by seven of the 14 largest municipalities in Aragon. And also the province of Huesca as a whole, whose average incidence
close to 200 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in the last seven days. All this a month after Aragon suffered a new wave of Covid, the fifth that the region has accumulated since the pandemic began, a year and a half ago.
Since the end of July, the regional average of infections has been progressively reducing. But, despite this, there are still worrying urban pockets of Covid, cities with high rates of contagion.
By municipalities, the largest Aragonese outbreaks of Covid currently occur in the localities of Caspe (Zaragoza), Huesca capital, Fraga (Huesca), Barbastro (Huesca), Utebo (Zaragoza), Alcañiz (Teruel) and Calatayud (Zaragoza).
Caspe heads this thorny ranking, with a weekly accumulated incidence of 369 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, according to the latest official data provided this Monday by the Aragonese health authorities. It is followed by Huesca capital, with a weekly rate of 222.4 infections per 100,000 inhabitants.
Fraga is the third worst urban focus of Covid, with a cumulative incidence of 208.4 per 100,000 in the last seven days, and Barbastro occupies the fifth position, with a rate of 139.7.
Utebo, Alcañiz and Calatayud are also above the alarm threshold, which in the last week have registered a cumulative incidence of 138.1, 131.2 and 129.4 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.
Increase in infections
Among the 14 largest towns in Aragon, Fraga is the one that has registered a greater rebound in infections in the last seven days: the weekly cumulative incidence has skyrocketed by 146% and has made this town the third worst urban focus of Covid in the region.
On Caspe weekly incidence has increased by 95% in the last seven days, in Utebo has increased by 86%, a 63% in Calatayud, 62% in Alcañiz and 17% in Ejea de los Caballeros.
However, in the rest of the main Aragonese cities the spread has been reduced in the last week, although several of them continue with alarming rates of infections. This is the case of Huesca capital, in which the incidence has decreased considerably, but it is still the second worst focus of Covid in Aragon.
For its part, the capitals of Zaragoza and Teruel currently stand out for the low incidence of Covid, with a weekly incidence of 94 and 77 infections per 100,000 inhabitants, respectively.
