The hospitality industry raises the blind at the bridge gates

In this case, the joy goes through neighborhoods. At the gates of the festive bridge of the Constitution, a good part of the Galician hoteliers will be able to raise the blind of their businesses again, after an agonizing month in which the profits, they say, have been Pyrrhic and insufficient to cover their minimum expenses. Those who breathe the most relief since the entry into force of the new regulations, this morning, are those who are in the middle and basic phase, in the case of SAntiago, Orense and their metropolitan areas, until now closed perimeter.

Coinciding with the relaxation of restrictions, coffee shops began to timidly come to life, although in some places they already have reservations for both tonight and the bridge ahead. In the case of municipalities with less than 100 cases per 100,000 inhabitants after 14 days (Santiago, Ames, Teo or Ourense and Barbadás) bars will be able to reach 50% capacity indoors and 75 percent outdoors, also with groups limited to six not living together. In the case of the medium level, there are those localities with an incidence of 100 to 150 cases per more than 100,000 inhabitants in 14 days (La Coruña, Arteixo, Cambre or Culleredo, for example), where It will be allowed to open to the hospitality industry with 40% indoors and 50% outdoors, with a maximum of six people who are not living together. The expansion of the capacity encouraged most of the hoteliers to reopen their businesses, boosted by the possibility of offering lunches and even dinners, always keeping the closure at 23 hours.

The cross of the coin

The picture is different in the municipalities hardest hit by Covid. In Pontevedra, one of the most contagious in recent days, the sensations are different. Certainly less flattering. In the worst-off areas – above 250 cases per 100,000 inhabitants after 14 days – such as Pontevedra and its perimeter area, Marín, O Grove and Sanxenxo, Carballo and A Laracha, As Pontes, O Porriño, Vilalba or You, The terraces of the hotel industry will be open until 5:00 p.m. and at 50 percent occupancy. Up to four people who are not living together can join.

At the intermediate level, localities with an incidence between 150 and 250 cases in 14 days per 100,000 inhabitants are Ferrol, Vigo, Vilagarcía and Vilanova or Dumbría and Muxía, among others. There, the hospitality industry will reopen 30 percent indoors and 50 percent on terraces, until 5:00 p.m. and with maximum groupings of four non-cohabitants. There, spirits are not as high as in cities where relaxation is notable. “We are going to half gas and that is not enough” lament some of the self-employed.
